ShapeShift manufactures under one brand, ShapeShell, across three substrates. They are not interchangeable. The choice is normally settled by three things: whether the element is external or internal, what the fire requirement is, and how much weight the structure and the crane will carry.

Both external substrates have been independently tested. The results below are the ones that decide specifications, and the distinction between them is the most common point of confusion in this material class.

Tested to AS/NZS 1530.1, the result is “not deemed combustible”, which is the test the NCC points to for external walls in Type A and Type B construction.
Group 1 under AS 5637 and B-s2, d0 under EN 13501-1 are strong results. B-s2, d0 means limited combustibility, medium smoke and no flaming droplets. That is not the same thing as non-combustible. Where the Code requires a non-combustible external wall, RC is the substrate.
Fire compliance is also assessed on the complete wall or lining system rather than the panel in isolation, so backing wall, supports, insulation, cavity treatment, fixings, sealants and coatings all form part of the assessment. Cavity design, barriers and junction detailing are worth coordinating with the fire engineer early rather than at shop drawing stage. The full test register is on the material fire rating page.
ShapeShift is vertically integrated, which in practice means the same organisation carries a project from early collaboration with the architect through design and engineering, CNC pattern making, production and installation support. The point of that structure is not tidiness. It is that the person who has to make the panel is in the conversation while the geometry is still being decided, which is when buildability is cheap to fix.

Over roughly 25 years the business has delivered more than 350 projects across 18 countries, for architects, Tier 1 builders and public art commissioners, and offers up to a 50 year warranty depending on system and exposure. Recent Australian work includes the Sydney Football Stadium roof nosing, the Marvel Stadium facade redevelopment in Melbourne Docklands, the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre, and the Brisbane Cross River Rail station programme.

Start with where the element sits and what the fire requirement is. External wall that must be non-combustible: ShapeShell-RC. External geometry that is large, deeply cantilevered or too heavy in concrete: ShapeShell-RT. Internal ceilings, bulkheads, column wraps and decorative elements: ShapeShell-RG. Where a project sits between two of those, the decision is usually made on weight against the existing structure.
ShapeShell-RC is. It is tested to AS/NZS 1530.1 by Ignis Labs with a result of not deemed combustible. ShapeShell-RT is not non-combustible: it is a polymer composite that achieves Group 1 under AS 5637 and B-s2, d0 under EN 13501-1. Both are genuinely strong fire results, but only RC satisfies a non-combustible external wall requirement.
GRC gets its tensile strength from dispersed glass fibre rather than steel reinforcement, so the panel can be far thinner and lighter while holding the same concrete appearance. The consequence that matters on a project is structural: a lighter facade often means lighter supporting steel, smaller fixings and a simpler lift, and those savings usually exceed the difference in panel rate.
Yes. Complex geometry is the reason most projects come to ShapeShift rather than a standard cladding supplier. Patterns are CNC machined from the architect’s model, and ShapeShell-RT in particular is used where a shape cannot be delivered as flat panels or as precast without a joint pattern that defeats the design intent.
Yes. Design and engineering are in-house, including finite element analysis where panel sizes, fixings or wind loads need to be proven rather than assumed, and shop drawings are produced as part of the same process rather than subcontracted out.
Manufacturing runs under ISO 9001 accredited quality processes. Product testing has been carried out by independent laboratories including Ignis Labs, AWTA Product Testing and Intertek against AS/NZS 1530.1, AS/NZS 3837, AS 1530.3, AS 5637 and EN 13501-1.
Panels are manufactured at ShapeShift’s own facility in Batam, Indonesia. Design and engineering are Australian, run from the Australian office alongside project management, and panels are produced to Australian standards. The fire testing above was carried out to Australian and European test methods.
Up to 50 years, depending on the system specified and the exposure conditions. The applicable period is confirmed for each project against the panel type, coating and environment rather than quoted as a single figure.
