Details
Located at the heart of the Commonwealth Games Athletes Village 2018, the Parklands Disk is the village’s focal point. It was designed in reference to the Natural Arch waterfall, a local ecological gem in the Springbrook National Park. The disk is built like an aircraft wing clad with ShapeShell™-RT, sitting 25m in diameter and cantilevering 15m from the last support.
The disc was fitted out with LED lighting and aquatics to create a waterfall through the central oculus which creates a serine atmosphere during the day and night. Style lines were built integral to the complex geometry to accentuate the unique aerodynamics of the disc.
